KidZania Johannesburg, the first to launch in sub-Saharan Africa, will open in December 2018 and be located in Fourways Mall, which is set to become one of South Africa’s largest malls.
The official launch of this facility was announced last April 12th, 2018 at an event on the premises of Fourways Mall, where Xavier Lopez Ancona, President of KidZania; David Ngobeni, Governor of KidZania South Africa and CEO of Alpha Investment Group; as well as Herman Mashaba, Johannesburg Mayor, highlighted the importance of public-private sector partnerships aiming to empower South Africa’s youth, develop new businesses and create more jobs in this country.
In that regard, Mashaba mentioned: “The South African economy is in urgent need of professionals across all sectors and the long-term work of developing these skills needs to start at an early age, particularly in children up to the age of 18 years.”
Moreover, Lopez Ancona pointed out that the upcoming foundation of KidZania Johannesburg also represents a milestone for the KidZania Nation since it expands the franchise’s footprint to 20 countries globally. There are currently 24 operating facilities and 12 more in different stages of development.
Another key factor to deliver the immersive and interactive KidZania experiences, unmatched by any other location-based learning and entertainment property, is the integrated partnership of Industry Partners.
As Ngobeni described, some of the Industry Partners that have signed MOUs with KidZania Johannesburg include Standard Bank, Nedbank, ABSA, DRA, PAR, McDonald’s, Jacaranda FM, Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, Pritt (Henkel), Clinix, Papachino’s, Mugg n Bean, Milky Lane, Mike’s Kitchen, Chip ‘n Dip, Krispy Kreme, SPAR, BiC, FedEx, Proudly South African to name a few.
KidZania Johannesburg will have an operating area of approximately 8000m2, where visitors will be able to enjoy different, fun and learning activities in over 52 establishments.
