NEW YORK, New York. PSFK. August 27, 2012. (English) by Don Michael Acelar de Leon. -Curiosity drives Matthew Shlian into creating detailed geometric pieces and packaging designs for leading innovators like Apple and Procter and Gamble.
Paper artist, designer, and educator Matthew Shlian takes conventional notions of paper folding and cutting to possibilities that are yet to be fully explored and utilized. Commissioned to craft artworks and designs for the likes of Procter and Gamble, Apple, and Ghostly, Shlian has a remarkable talent for creating intricate geometric figures from folding paper at microscopic and nanoscopic scales; his creations range from table tops and art pieces to edgy packaging. Shlian explains the mindset behind his amazing pieces:
In my studio I am a collaborator, explorer and inventor. I begin with a system of folding and at a particular moment the material takes over. Guided by wonder, my work is made because I cannot visualize its final realization; in this way I come to understanding through curiosity.
